Stopping Time

Photographers essentially stop time by creating still imagery of your event – freezing moments as they occur that can be looked back on and remembered for years to come. Kennedy Rose firmly believes that photography is an essential part of curating memories for your event. From sharing those moments with family and friends who were not able to attend, to posting content on your social media account for your business – photography captures the essence of what it was like to be in the experience. A moment in time that you can cherish as a keepsake.

Events fly by – you spend time anticipating and envisioning and when the event occurs, and then you get whisked away in the moment; often realizing how quickly it is over. Additionally, you can’t be multiple places at once – hearing about moments that occurred later on that you didn’t get to experience. Through photography, you can still be included and see your event in its entirety.

Photography editing style is an art form. If you took ten different photographers and had them capture the same event; you would have ten completely different galleries of images. The subject matter was the same, but the editing is an artistic method that makes each gallery and photographer unique.

How do you select the right photographer for your event? Here are some tips:

TIP 1: Ask to see an entire gallery. Looking at a gallery in its entirety allows you to see what percentage of the content was useable, not just the best pictures they captured. This shows you their overall editing and photography style and how many pictures they typically provide.

TIP 2: Ask about turnaround time. Turnaround time can range from weeks to months. Does your photographer offer a ‘sneak peek’? A sneak peek is small collection of some of your images delivered to you before the rest. This will hold you over until you get the entire gallery and get you excited about seeing the final result. Or, if a sneak peek isn’t enough for you… we suggest hiring a content creator in addition to your photographer. Content creators typically have a fast turn-around time and can capture some of the raw, behind the scenes photos.

TIP 3: Second shooter. Do they have a second shooter to make sure moments can be captured simultaneously? If not, you may need to rethink your timeline of events to ensure there is sufficient time for your photographer to travel between site locations or prepare for the next photographic moment.

TIP 4: Shooting style. Ask them if they are more or less hands on. Do they offer posing techniques, or would you prefer a more documentary style – where they just capture moments as they happen naturally? How much of a presence do you want them to have? If they are directing you to pose while you are having an intimate moment, will that impact your experience? A first look is the perfect example. Do you want your photographer directing you how to pose in this moment, or do you want them to just capture the moment between you and your future spouse? Discuss this with them to see if they are the right fit for you.

TIP 5: Create a Pinterest board to show them photographs you love of similar events and explain to them what you like about them. Do you like the lighting, or does the moment seem like everyone is having a good time? Be specific about what you like and do not like and back it up with examples. This will only help your photographer, and you, get on the same page.
